Since 2004, the law on regional elections has allowed Indonesians to directly elect their own regional leaders.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.straitstimes.com\/asia\/se-asia\/indonesia-disputes-report-on-language-requirement?utm_source=AIC+Media+Update&amp;utm_campaign=67764ee66a-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_2018_06_27_04_08&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;utm_term=0_1639681d6e-67764ee66a-459043661\" data-cke-saved-href=\"https:\/\/www.straitstimes.com\/asia\/se-asia\/indonesia-disputes-report-on-language-requirement?utm_source=AIC+Media+Update&amp;utm_campaign=67764ee66a-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_2018_06_27_04_08&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;utm_term=0_1639681d6e-67764ee66a-459043661\">Indonesia is disputing a report<\/a> by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2018\/06\/23\/world\/asia\/indonesia-language-foreign-permits.html\" data-cke-saved-href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2018\/06\/23\/world\/asia\/indonesia-language-foreign-permits.html\">The New York Times<\/a> that said it is imposing a language requirement for all expatriate workers in the country.<\/li>\n<li>The World Bank recently approved a loan of US$150 million to <a href=\"http:\/\/australiaindonesiacentre.org\/indonesian-media-in-brief-campaigning-on-health\/?utm_source=AIC+Media+Update&amp;utm_campaign=4108d8e214-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_2018_06_22_06_54&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;utm_term=0_1639681d6e-4108d8e214-459043661\" data-cke-saved-href=\"http:\/\/australiaindonesiacentre.org\/indonesian-media-in-brief-campaigning-on-health\/?utm_source=AIC+Media+Update&amp;utm_campaign=4108d8e214-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_2018_06_22_06_54&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;utm_term=0_1639681d6e-4108d8e214-459043661\">support Indonesia\u2019s healthcare programs and services<\/a>, set to focus on East Nusa Tenggara, Maluku and Papua in Eastern Indonesia. However, it remains to be seen whether candidates in the upcoming regional elections have prioritised health in their programs.<\/li>\n<li>The South Sulawesi Police have dispatched more than 17,000 officers to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thejakartapost.com\/news\/2018\/06\/27\/17000-police-personnel-dispatched-to-secure-s-sulawesi-elections.html\" data-cke-saved-href=\"http:\/\/www.thejakartapost.com\/news\/2018\/06\/27\/17000-police-personnel-dispatched-to-secure-s-sulawesi-elections.html\">secure elections in 12 regions<\/a> across the province on Wednesday.<\/li>\n<li>Globalisation has been second nature to Indonesia for centuries. Yet with a general election on the docket for 2019, the <a href=\"https:\/\/yaleglobal.yale.edu\/content\/indonesian-voters-debate-globalization?utm_source=AIC+Media+Update&amp;utm_campaign=67764ee66a-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_2018_06_27_04_08&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;utm_term=0_1639681d6e-67764ee66a-459043661\" data-cke-saved-href=\"https:\/\/yaleglobal.yale.edu\/content\/indonesian-voters-debate-globalization?utm_source=AIC+Media+Update&amp;utm_campaign=67764ee66a-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_2018_06_27_04_08&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;utm_term=0_1639681d6e-67764ee66a-459043661\">extent to which the Widodo government embraces globalisation<\/a> remains a key question for observers.<\/li>\n<li>Indonesia\u2019s air quality lags behind World Health Organisation\u2019s (WHO) standards and Ciliwung, Jakarta\u2019s biggest river is famous as one of the most polluted rivers globally.
