If you missed it, you can <a href=\"http:\/\/www.abc.net.au\/tv\/qanda\/txt\/s3788237.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">watch it online via the Q&amp;A website<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>On the eve of Prime Minister Kevin Rudd\u2019s visit to Indonesia, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thejakartapost.com\/news\/2013\/07\/04\/commentary-indonesia-a-reluctant-good-neighbor-australia.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">this frank opinion piece<\/a> by a senior\u00a0<i>Jakarta Post <\/i>editor\u00a0on the Australia-Indonesia relationship has provoked debate.<\/li>\n<li><i><\/i>Reuters <a href=\"http:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/2013\/07\/03\/australia-beef-indonesia-idUSL3N0EB0I520130703\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reports on how PM Rudd\u2019s trip to Jakarta seeks to get the Australia-Indonesia beef trade back on track<\/a>, including bold plans for direct Indonesian investment in beef production in Australia.<\/li>\n<li><i>The Economist<\/i>\u2019s Banyan column visits Riau, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.economist.com\/blogs\/banyan\/2013\/07\/fires-sumatra\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reporting on how poverty, corruption and traditions of slash-and-burn agriculture<\/a> are at the root of the fire and haze crisis affecting the region.<\/li>\n<li><i>Financial Times<\/i> correspondent Benjamin Bland (<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/benjaminbland\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">@benjaminbland<\/a>) interviewed presidential candidate Prabowo Subianto over lunch, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ft.com\/cms\/s\/2\/7024de00-de5b-11e2-b990-00144feab7de.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">and it makes for very interesting reading.<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Fairfax\u2019s correspondent Michael Bachelard (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.twitter.com\/mbachelard\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">@mbachelard<\/a>) had <a href=\"http:\/\/www.theage.com.au\/world\/leading-a-double-life-in-indonesia-20130627-2p01x.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">this engaging feature<\/a> on how many gay Indonesians must lead a \u2018double life\u2019 in order to be accepted by society.<\/li>\n<li>On the same topic, today\u2019s edition of <i>The Economist<\/i> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.economist.com\/news\/asia\/21580526-some-countries-consider-gay-marriage-elsewhere-attitudes-harden-fifty-shades-pink\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reports on the state of gay rights in Southeast Asia<\/a>, noting that Indonesia compares unfavourably with some of its neighbours in terms of tolerance.<\/li>\n<li>Indonesia gained another long-shot presidential ticket: Soeharto-era millitary boss, Hanura Party founder and unsuccessful former presidential and veep candidate Wiranto has teamed up with ethnic Chinese media tycoon Hary Tanoesoedibjo <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thejakartapost.com\/news\/2013\/07\/03\/past-history-forgotten-hary-meets-wiranto.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">to represent Hanura in the 2014 poll.<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Longer\/academic reads<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>The political drama in Egypt has been making headlines in both Australia and Indonesia. Cornell University\u2019s Tom Pepinsky (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.twitter.com\/tompepinsky\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">@tompepinsky<\/a>) shared <a href=\"https:\/\/courses.cit.cornell.edu\/tp253\/docs\/indonesian_model.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">this recent paper<\/a> in which he argues that there is no \u2018Indonesian model\u2019 for Egyptian democratisation.<\/li>\n<li>The latest volume of the respected journal <i>Indonesia, <\/i>this time\u00a0focusing on Papua, <a href=\"http:\/\/cip.cornell.edu\/DPubS?service=UI&amp;version=1.0&amp;verb=Display&amp;handle=seap.indo\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">is now available online<\/a> if you have an institutional subscription.<\/li>\n<li>The World Bank, in its quarterly report on Indonesia\u2019s economy, downgraded its forecast for the country&#8217;s 2013 GDP growth to 5.9%.
