{"id":2029,"date":"2013-08-23T11:30:24","date_gmt":"2013-08-23T00:30:24","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.aiya.org.au\/?p=2029"},"modified":"2021-07-10T19:22:43","modified_gmt":"2021-07-10T09:22:43","slug":"aiya-links-23-august","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/aiya.org.au\/id\/2013\/08\/23\/aiya-links-23-august\/","title":{"rendered":"AIYA Links: 23 August"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>In the news<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"line-height: 13px;\">It&#8217;s been a bad week for Indonesia on the financial markets, as <a href=\"http:\/\/www.smh.com.au\/business\/world-business\/us-fed-in-two-minds-over-tapering-timing-20130822-2sc71.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">expectations that the US Federal Reserve will wind down its quantitative easing policies<\/a>\u00a0saw investors <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2013\/08\/23\/business\/global\/currencies-drop-as-dollars-flee-asia.html?ref=indonesia&amp;_r=0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">pull US dollars out of Asia<\/a>.<\/span><\/li>\n<li>As these links went out, Bloomberg reported that President Yudhoyono and his economic team were set to announce policy responses <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/2013-08-22\/indonesia-plans-policy-stimulus-to-woo-investors-and-help-rupiah.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">&#8216;that may include a fiscal stimulus and tax holidays&#8230;to address the economic situation&#8217;<\/a>. The\u00a0<em>Jakarta Globe\u00a0<\/em>reported that measures would include <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thejakartaglobe.com\/news\/revisions-to-negative-investment-food-imports-part-of-new-policy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">revisions to the negative investment list and loosening of import restrictions<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Concerns about the economy go beyond the financial markets, as\u00a0<em>The Economist\u00a0<\/em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.economist.com\/news\/asia\/21584032-rise-economic-nationalism-compounds-broader-worries-about-south-east-asias-giant-slipping\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reports this week<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>On the other hand: Singapore bank UOB\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.thejakartaglobe.com\/business\/uob-to-open-indonesian-fdi-advisory-as-capital-inflows-remain-strong\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">will open an FDI advisory branch in Jakarta this year<\/a>, a reminder that investment still remains strong overall.<\/li>\n<li>The Australia-Indonesia aviation market still has great potential, as <a href=\"http:\/\/centreforaviation.com\/analysis\/indonesia-australia-aviation-market-poised-for-rapid-growth-and-diversification-beyond-bali-124413\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">this analysis from the Centre for Asia Pacific Aviation shows<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Aussie beef producers will welcome comments made at the IndOz beef industry expo by Indonesian officials\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.theaustralian.com.au\/national-affairs\/indonesians-seek-a-stake-in-aussie-cattle\/story-fn59niix-1226702444862\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">about their government&#8217;s keenness to promote Indonesian investment in food production here<\/a>.
