Is it all about the government-to-government linkages, or does something more need to happen at the grassroots level to build connections between individuals?<\/p>\n<p>AIYA surveyed its members to see what they thought was really happening, and to help observers understand how the Australia-Indonesia relationship looks from the perspective of young people working on the ground to build it.<\/p>\n<p>The survey captured the views of 206 AIYA members from across Australia and Indonesia. Results from the survey were used in AIYA\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dfat.gov.au\/issues\/asian-century\/submissions\/200%20-%20Indonesia%20-%20Australia-Indonesia%20Youth%20Association.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">submission to DFAT\u2019s Indonesia Country Strategy<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The Survey focused on three main topics:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"line-height: 13px;\"><strong>Demographics\u00a0<\/strong>of our membership\u2014what kind of young Indonesia enthusiasts are attracted to an organisation like AIYA?<br \/>\n<\/span><\/li>\n<li><strong>Priorities\u00a0<\/strong>for developing the Australia-Indonesia relationship from the point of view of members, and<\/li>\n<li><strong>Barriers\u00a0<\/strong>which members think are holding up the improvement of the relationship.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>It turns out that the\u00a0<a title=\"AIYA Western Australia\" href=\"http:\/\/www.aiya.org.au\/chapters\/wa\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Western Australia Chapter<\/a>,\u00a0with the largest student membership base, isn\u2019t so different from the\u00a0<a title=\"AIYA New South Wales\" href=\"http:\/\/www.aiya.org.au\/chapters\/nsw\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">New South Wales Chapter<\/a>, which has the largest proportion of working members\u2014so what do they actually think? <a href=\"http:\/\/www.aiya.org.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/AIYA-Survey-Summary-Final.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Click here<\/a>\u00a0to read the survey results and find out.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Where should trade, aid, military and cultural ties come into the Australia-Indonesia relationship?
