Prime Minister-elect Tony Abbott has said he&#8217;d like to make a trip to Jakarta as soon as possible, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.abc.net.au\/news\/2013-09-11\/abbott-speaks-with-indonesian-president-about-asylum-seekers\/4949862\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">perhaps even before his scheduled visit to the APEC Summit in Bali next month<\/a>.<\/span><\/li>\n<li>There&#8217;s good analysis of what Mr Abbott&#8217;s &#8216;Jakarta, not Geneva&#8217; foreign policy might mean at\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.economist.com\/blogs\/banyan\/2013\/09\/australias-foreign-policy\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>The Economist&#8217;s <\/em>Banyan column<\/a>,\u00a0from Michael Bachelard (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.twitter.com\/mbachelard\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">@mbachelard<\/a>) <a href=\"http:\/\/www.theage.com.au\/comment\/abbotts-task-with-indonesia-not-as-easy-as-it-looks-20130909-2tfr1.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">in Fairfax papers<\/a>, as well as from the ANU&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.eastasiaforum.org\/2013\/09\/10\/in-australia-its-now-less-about-geneva-more-about-jakarta\/?utm_source=buffer&amp;utm_campaign=Buffer&amp;utm_content=bufferde040&amp;utm_medium=twitter\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Michael Wesley at\u00a0<em>East Asia Forum.<\/em><\/a><\/li>\n<li><em>The Jakarta Post\u00a0<\/em>editors welcomed the incoming Abbott government with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thejakartapost.com\/news\/2013\/09\/09\/editorial-g-day-tony-mate.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">a friendly leader<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>In other news&#8230;<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Indonesian State Owned Enterprises Minister, Dahlan Iskan (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.twitter.com\/iskan_dahlan\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">@Iskan_Dahlan<\/a>) announced that <a href=\"http:\/\/www.abc.net.au\/news\/2013-09-12\/indonesia-plans-to-buy-1m-hectares-of-grazing-land\/4952578\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">&#8216;cabinet has approved the purchase of a million hectares of land in Australia so Indonesia can breed its own cattle on the land&#8217;<\/a>, reports the ABC&#8217;s Jakarta corro George Roberts (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.twitter.com\/george_roberts\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">@George_Roberts<\/a>).<\/li>\n<li>Discouraging <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/2013-09-12\/rupiah-drops-most-in-three-weeks-as-indonesia-seen-holding-rate.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">economic news<\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/2013\/09\/08\/us-indonesia-economy-idUSBRE9870G520130908\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">continues to roll in<\/a>, but Indonesia&#8217;s Finance Minister Chatib Basri (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.twitter.com\/chatibbasri\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">@ChatibBasri<\/a>) has told the\u00a0<em>Financial Times&#8217;\u00a0<\/em>Ben Bland (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.twitter.com\/benjaminbland\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">@benjaminbland<\/a>) that <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ft.com\/intl\/cms\/s\/0\/207f8336-19da-11e3-93e8-00144feab7de.html?siteedition=intl#axzz2eLSO6FtQ\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">now is the perfect time for Indonesia to pursue long overdue structural reforms<\/a>.
