Indonesian communities around Australia will be coming together to celebrate the occasion, and we&#8217;ve prepared a list of events where you can take part, too!<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Mini flag by \u4e16\u66f8 \u540d\u4ed8, on Flickr\" href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/nseika\/6038571364\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/34.101.188.30\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/6038571364_520b2a4f41_z.jpg\" alt=\"Mini flag\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h2>New South Wales<\/h2>\n<p>The Indonesian Community Council of New South Wales will host <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/AIYANSW\/photos\/a.349288338452063.76607.339288929452004\/712384698809090\/?type=1&amp;theater\">an <strong>Independence Day celebration<\/strong><\/a> at Leichardt Town Hall, on the corner of Marion and Norton Streets from 11am-4pm. The event will include a live performance from Suara Band, along with food, special presentations and more.<\/p>\n<p>The Consulate General of Indonesia will also host a <strong>flag-raising ceremony<\/strong> at the Consul General\u2019s house at 25 Kent Road, Rose Bay, Sydney, from 10am on Sunday, 17 August 2014.\u00a0(Dress code: Batik or National attire or Formal wear.)<\/p>\n<h2>Victoria<\/h2>\n<p>PPIA La Trobe University (KiLat) has organised <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/ppialatrobe\/photos\/a.606839882736081.1073741840.495878673832203\/677424389010963\/?type=1\">an event<\/a> involving \u00a0games, Indonesian dance, Indonesian food \u2014 and prizes! It&#8217;s taking place tonight, in the Agora at La Trobe&#8217;s Bundoora campus from 12-2pm.<\/p>\n<p>On Saturday, PPIA Victoria will host its first ever theatrical performance,\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/events\/1396963457192925\/?fref=ts\"><em>Panggung Merdeka<\/em><\/a><\/strong>.\u00a0The theme of this year&#8217;s <em>Panggung Merdeka<\/em> this year is <em>Lensa Kecil Seorang Pejuang<\/em> (Small Lens of a Fighter), adapted from the life story of student activist <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Soe_Hok_Gie\">Soe Hok Gie<\/a>.\u00a0Soe Hok Gie was a student activist opposed to the Sukarno and Suharto regimes, arguing that\u00a0fair and transparent leadership is of fundamental importance, particularly for the younger generation, and supported Indonesia&#8217;s motto of\u00a0<i>Bhinneka Tunggal Ika<\/i>.<\/p>\n<p>Live music will be performed from the Indonesian Creative Community of Australia. The event will take place at the Athenaeum Theatre on Collins St, from 12-4pm. Tickets should be <a href=\"http:\/\/panggungmerdeka.eventbrite.com.au\/\">booked in advance<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Later on Saturday, PPIA&#8217;s Swinburne University and Deakin University chapters will present the first <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/events\/707472769338369\/\"><strong>Indonesian stand-up comedy<\/strong><\/a> event in Melbourne. The event will feature stand-up comedy by Pandji Pragiwaksono as well as local comedians. The event is taking place at Melbourne City Conference Centre from 7-10pm \u2014\u00a0tickets can be reserved <a href=\"http:\/\/www.eventbrite.com.au\/e\/pandawa-2014-tickets-12187070857\">through Eventbrite<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>On Sunday, the Indonesian Consulate-General in Melbourne will an official host a\u00a0<strong>flag raising ceremony <\/strong>at\u00a09.30am, at 72 Queens Road, St Kilda (enter via Queens Lane).\u00a0The Consulate will host\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/events\/707472769338369\/\">another ceremony and <strong>saman performance<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0with Saman Melbourne later in the day at Federation Square, starting from 3.00pm.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.aiya.org.au\/vic-17an\/\"><em>See more events taking place in Victoria.<\/em><\/a><\/p>\n<h2>Queensland<\/h2>\n<p>PPIA Queensland are organising a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/photo.php?fbid=670591446351011&amp;set=p.670591446351011&amp;type=1&amp;theater\"><strong>special\u00a0<em>Koempoel Rakyat<\/em><\/strong> event<\/a> on Sunday at Sherwood State School from 10am to 4pm. There will be a traditional food bazaar, music, games and performances.<em><br \/>\n<\/em><\/p>\n<p>They&#8217;re also hosting a 69km\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/photo.php?fbid=1489509817955427&amp;set=a.1489509834622092.1073741829.100006892698476&amp;type=1&amp;theater\"><strong>Independence Day bike ride<\/strong><\/a>, from Brisbane to the Gold Coast \u2014 leaving from Holland Park at 7am. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/photo.php?fbid=1489509817955427&amp;set=a.1489509834622092.1073741829.100006892698476&amp;type=1&amp;theater\">Contact the organisers<\/a> for more information.<\/p>\n<h2>Western Australia<\/h2>\n<p>The <strong>Perth Indonesian Film Festival<\/strong> will run until Sunday night, with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.balaibahasaperth.org\/perth-indonesian-film-festival\">screenings scheduled<\/a> for\u00a0<em>Sokola Rimba<\/em>,\u00a0<em>Mata Tertutup<\/em> and <em>Soekarno\u00a0<\/em>scheduled for Saturday and Sunday.<\/p>\n<p>A <strong>flag raising ceremony<\/strong> will also be held at the Indonesian Consulate-General in Perth, however all places have been filled.<\/p>\n<p>PPIA Curtin University will host an\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/ppiacurtin\/photos\/a.511312615645196.1073741828.439288142847644\/574686889307768\/?type=1&amp;theater\">Independence Day barbecue<\/a> on the 18th of August,<\/p>\n<h2>South Australia<\/h2>\n<p>A\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/AIYA.SouthAustralia\/photos\/pcb.908955755786670\/908953279120251\/?type=1&amp;theater\"><strong>flag raising<\/strong> and\u00a0<strong>food bazaar<\/strong><\/a> will be hosted by PPIA South Australia and the Australia-Indonesia Association on Sunday from 9am, at the Goodwood Community Centre, including angklung, stand-up comedy and saman performances.<\/p>\n<h2>ACT<\/h2>\n<p>The ANU Indonesian Students&#8217; Association are holding a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/events\/330429377126171\/\"><em>Hunger Games<\/em>-themed food eating competition<\/a> on the 23rd of August.<\/p>\n<p><i>Have we missed an event?
