The Indonesian Finance Minister, Sri Mulyani Indrawati, believes that Indonesia\u2019s economy will continue to recover and be safe from recession in 2023. Indonesia\u2019s robust performance indicates that economic policy responses to the COVID-19 pandemic were successful. Middle class consumption has supported Indonesia\u2019s economy for a long time, including during the pandemic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-buttons is-horizontal is-content-justification-center is-layout-flex wp-container-core-buttons-is-layout-499968f5 wp-block-buttons-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-button\"><a class=\"wp-block-button__link wp-element-button\" href=\"https:\/\/www.eastasiaforum.org\/2023\/03\/17\/a-strong-middle-class-is-the-backbone-of-indonesias-economy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Read more<\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>In the News<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>For decades, motives for learning Indonesian has been limited to compulsory, if not a narrative of economic opportunity. However, declining enrolments forces us to review Indonesian learning in a different light &#8211; should we be looking<a href=\"https:\/\/melbourneasiareview.edu.au\/beyond-asian-language-skills-indonesian-learning-for-a-more-just-and-equitable-society\/\"> beyond \u2018Asian\u2019 language skills, and learning for a more just and equitable society?<\/a> <strong>(Melbourne Asia Review)<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Indonesian visa applicants are placed in a higher risk category than smaller ASEAN economies (for example Malaysia and Singapore). This higher threshold will have long term, serious negative repercussions for Australia: we will not be able to maximise the intent of the IA-CEPA, build trust levels between our two countries, or drive social, political, economic and education ties. In light of this, <a href=\"https:\/\/indonesia-institute.org.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/Reform-for-Indonesian-Visitors-to-Australia-90323.pdf\">the Indonesia Institute has called for visa reform to manage Indonesian applicants<\/a>. <strong>(Indonesia Institute)<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.eastasiaforum.org\/2023\/03\/22\/indonesias-digital-banking-sector-needs-coordinated-support-and-data-integration\/\">Indonesia\u2019s digital banking sector needs coordinated support and data integration.<\/a> Neo-banks should focus on their attempts to establish low-cost sources of funding. They should engage with small and medium enterprises and improve their features to retain customers, because digital banking has the potential to propel Indonesia\u2019s economy into the future and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eastasiaforum.org\/2023\/02\/24\/jump-starting-indonesias-transition-to-an-innovative-economy\/\">unlock its full potential<\/a>. <strong>(East Asia Forum)<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Indonesia\u2019s parliament has passed an emergency regulation on jobs and investment, replacing a wide-ranging October 2020 law that was struck down by the Constitutional Court.
