Western Australia’s close proximity to Indonesia means that many West Australians prefer to hop on a plane to Indonesia rather than visit their sister states over on the east coast. AIYA WA was founded in 2012 to help connect young people to a network of like-minded individuals with an interest in all things Australia-Indonesia, and it continues to build strong community connections to strengthen the bilateral relationship. As an Australian of Indonesian heritage, Anastasia is passionate about strengthening the ties of both countries. She is well-known within the Perth Australia-Indonesia bilateral space as a volunteer, History/Asian Studies student, and an advocate for Indonesian language studies. She hopes to complete her PhD on Indonesian History.

I am an Indonesian Language Assistant for the Department of Education in Western Australia with a keen interest in social and cultural work. I am taking the role as Events Team Leader in AIYA Chapter WA, aiming to enchance bilateral ties between Indonesia and Australia through language and cultural exchanges.

Born and raised in Australia, Tahlia is an International Relations student at Curtin who fell in love with Indonesia while on an internship in Jakarta. Well-known within the youth IR space, Tahlia also works as a Student Ambassador for International Internships. Having joined AIYA in 2024, Tahlia hopes to foster a stronger bilateral relationship between Indonesia and Australia at a grassroots level.

Stephen Haydon is studying a Master of Politics and International Relations at the University of Notre Dame Australia. He is a 2022 Alumnus from the Australia-Indonesia Youth Exchange Program, and is passionate about contributing to the building of more vibrant and resilient grassroots relationships between the Australian and Indonesian communities. He believes that AIYA WA provides an invaluable platform which contributes to the genuine facilitation of that indispensable relationship growth.

Farah Artia is currently pursuing her Master's degree in Architecture at the University of Western Australia (UWA). With a deep passion for design and architecture, she aspires to enrich her skills through international exposure and ultimately contribute her expertise to the architectural field in Indonesia. Embracing a vision of cross-cultural exchange, Farah is enthusiastic about leveraging her talents to contribute to the community, both locally and internationally. She sees AIYA as a platform where she can volunteer, network, and utilize her design skills and social media experience to make a meaningful impact within the AIYA WA community.
