Ruangrupa’s artistic direction of Documenta 15 introduces a global audience to the conscious collectivity that has been a feature of modern Indonesian art since the early twentieth century. Indonesian artists are developing new and diverse responses to politics, culture, locale and form, centred around the conjunction of artistic autonomy and a socially-engaged commitment to responsibility.
