The oldest example of figurative cave art has been discovered in the Indonesian Island of Sulawesi by Australian and Indonesian scientists.The painting of a wild pig and three human-like figures is at least 51,200 years old, more than 5,000 years older than the previous oldest cave art. (BBC)

- The Indonesia Investment Authority (INA) and the Embassy of Australia have inked an MoU to step up bilateral investment cooperation. The MoU was signed by the chairperson of the INA’s board of directors, Ridha Wirakusumah, and the Australian Ambassador to Indonesia, Penny Williams, on June 28, 2024. (Antara News)
- Extremist group Jemaah Islamiyah have disbanded as leaders cite renewed affiliation to Indonesian law. The Islamist terror group has been accused of orchestrating some of the deadliest attacks in Indonesia, most notably the 2002 Bali bombings which killed 209 people including 88 Australians. - Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto discussed various potential economic cooperations with Australian Business Ambassador to Indonesia Jennifer Westacott, focusing on increasing the capacity of Indonesia’s human resources (HR) to develop the semiconductor industry. - On June 27, Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto discussed various prospective areas for economic cooperation with Australian Business Champion for Indonesia Professor Jennifer Westacott AO, including an effort to increase Indonesian human resources’ capacity for semiconductor development. He explained that this plan is expected to be part of the support for Technical and Further Education (TAFE) or vocational education from the Australian government. (AntaraNews)

- Every year since 2020, AIYA has been hosting Kongres, our annual conference, in both Australia and Indonesia to bring together our volunteers from different states and provinces to meet in-person, attend cultural workshops, internal upskilling and participate in events. This year, we rearranged our conference to make the most out of the time we had in-person. Our Kongres occurred between 1-3 March 2024 in Melbourne, Australia and 8-10 March 2024 in Jakarta, Indonesia. It consisted of our Board of Directors, Chapter Presidents, and Officers from our National and Chapter Teams based in the host cities. Read here for the Bahasa Indonesia version!

- The Jakarta Bintangs is an Australian Football Club with membership open to anyone, beginners are most welcome. The club organises games throughout the year, mostly in Jakarta, with occasional games across Indonesia and overseas. Tours are planned to Bali, Batam, Vietnam and Thailand this year. Training is mostly held at Lapangan Bola Aldiron in Jakarta on Saturday or Sunday afternoons. On occasion, training sessions are also held Thursday nights in the GBK complex.
