Australia and Indonesia Strengthen Economic Ties with IA-CEPA 5th Anniversary. • Rescuers find more than 30 survivors after Bali-bound ferry sinking leaves four dead. The KMP Tunu Pratama Jaya sank almost half an hour after leaving East Java’s Ketapang port late on Wednesday.(ABC News)
• The Australian Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (DAFF) joined the Indonesian Quarantine Authority to co-host a workshop on biosecurity cooperation from 1-2 July. (Australia Embassy in Indonesia)
• Australian Ambassador to Indonesia Rod Brazier has launched a new climate-focused fund that will invest in renewable energy, waste and sustainable transport in Indonesia. The fund – named the KINETIK Affirma Capital Climate Transition Fund – will be managed by Affirma Capital, a leading private equity firm based in Singapore. (Australia Embassy in Indonesia)
• The Embassy of Indonesia hosted a special event titled “Tourism Update: A Taste of Bali” at the Ambassador’s residence on 3 July 2025. This cultural and promotional gathering was attended by approximately 55 distinguished guests, including representatives from foreign embassies, travel agencies, hotels, restaurants, cafés, and members of the Australia Indonesia Association. • Vice President Indonesia Gibran Rakabuming Raka has identified the halal industry as a strategic pillar in Indonesia’s pursuit of becoming a developed nation. He underscored the importance of fostering independence across halal sectors such as Islamic finance, food and beverage, Muslim fashion, and Islamic media content. (UNAIR News)

• AIYA Urges UTAS to Reconsider Closure of Indonesian Language Program – The Australia-Indonesia Youth Association (AIYA) has formally urged the University of Tasmania (UTAS) to reconsider its proposal to discontinue the Indonesian Language Program, which has been flagged for closure due to low enrolment and internal restructuring.
