Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto received an official visit from Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese in Lima, Peru, on Thursday, November 14, 2024. The meeting provided an opportunity for both leaders to strengthen diplomatic ties and cooperation in various strategic areas. During the meeting, Albanese commended Prabowo’s proactive approach to global diplomacy, particularly his inaugural visits to China and the United States. Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, Retno L.P. Marsudi, conveyed Indonesia’s four priorities as the next Country Coordinator for ASEAN-Australia relations at the ASEAN-Australia Post-Ministerial Conference (PMC) in Vientiane, Laos (26/7). • The new Brain Cipher ransomware operation has begun targeting organisations worldwide, gaining media attention for a recent attack on Indonesia’s temporary National Data Center. While the ransomware gang initially launched without a data leak site, their latest ransom notes now link to one, indicating that data is still in attack and will be used in double-extortion schemes. (Bleeping Computer)
• With the number of foreign tourists visiting Indonesia, especially Bali, on the rise, Garuda Indonesia is stepping up to the plate. President Director Irfan Setiaputra said that the effort to increase the frequency of international flights to and from Denpasar is in line with the demand that continues to grow positively. The total number of foreign tourist visits is dominated by tourists from Australia and South Korea on vacation in Bali. (Social Expat)
• One of the key policies for Indonesia’s president-elect, Prabowo Subianto, is to provide free lunches and milk to Indonesian school students. • Submissions for the 9th ReelOzInd! Australia Indonesia Short Film Festival is open! The theme for the 2024 competition is KEBERAGAMAN/DIVERSITY. • The Jakarta Bintangs is an Australian Football Club with membership open to anyone, beginners are most welcome. The club organises games throughout the year, mostly in Jakarta, with occasional games across Indonesia and overseas. Tours are planned to Bali, Batam, Vietnam and Thailand this year. Training is mostly held at Lapangan Bola Aldiron in Jakarta on Saturday or Sunday afternoons. On occasion, training sessions are also held Thursday nights in the GBK complex.
