Events

  • Adelaide, 11 November – AIYA SA play futsal every Monday night at Flinders Uni. Message them via the FB if you’re keen to join in.
  • Brisbane, 30 November – AIYA Queensland will be hosting their Annual General Meeting (AGM) from 11am at Sendok Garpu, Indooroopily. See event details – including how to apply for new committee.
  • Canberra, November 19-21 – The ANU Indonesia Institute is hosting the Indonesia Council Open Conference (with a postgraduate workshop on November 19). It is a free conference with multiple panels on many aspects of Indonesian society, politics, culture, environment, history and more. Don’t miss the session two’s panel on ‘soft power and student mobility’, examining the impact the NCP and other scholarship programs (eg. Australia Awards) are having on the Australia-Indonesia relationship, from 11:00 – 12:30pm in the Acton Theatre. There will also be a breakout discussion from 12:30 – 1:30pm featuring current/recent participants of these key bilateral flagship initiatives to gauge their experiences and evaluate their role in deepening bilateral relations.   • Darwin, 9 November – AIYA NT will hold their AGM at Hon Lauren Moss Office, Casuarina from 10:30am. See how you can apply for the 2020 Committee here.
  • Jakarta, 30 November – The Conference on Indonesian Foreign Policy (CIFP) is the country’s biggest festival of diplomacy and also happens to be the world’s largest foreign policy conference. The chosen theme for this year is “Cooling Off The Hot Peace: Strategic Opportunities and Economic Remedies for a Distressful World,”. Register for their annual event here.
  • Kupang, 9 November – AIYA East Indo (Kupang) are hosting an Information Session on the ‘Tourism and Hospitality Internship Program’, lead by guest speaker Alberto Selan (Intern at Griffith University, Queensland) from 11am at Nusa Cendana University. See more information.
  • Melbourne, 13 November – Come to AIYA Vic’s LX every Wednesday at 6pm, RMIT Building 80.
  • Melboune, 8 November – UniMelb’s Faculty of Fine Arts and Music and the Australia-Indonesia Centre invite you to the launch of Trading Cultures, a film that traces an artistic exchange which saw artists from Rumata’ Artspace and Buku-Larrŋgay Mulka Centre travel to Makassar, Indonesia and Bawaka in East Arnhem Land in December 2018.   • Melbourne, 14 November – Join Tim Watts MP for Asia Society Australia’s first book club event as he discusses ‘The Golden Country: Australia’s Changing Identity’, reassessing ‘Australianess’ through a deep dive into Australia’s race and immigration history. Tim will be joined by renowned Australian writer, lawyer and educator Alice Pung. It’s a free, public event – register now.

  • Call for volunteers! ANU’s Indonesia Conference (19 – 21 November) is looking for extra support, with duties including welcoming guests, liaising with speakers on arrival, helping with setting up/packing down, and troubleshooting any IT needs during the conference.   • Asia Society Australia has opened applications for Associate Director, Development and Partnerships to be based in Melbourne. The full-time role is looking for a candidate with 5+ years relevant working experience and an interest in Asia.   • The Australian Trade and Investment Commission (Austrade) is currently seeking a General Manager ASEAN (SES Band 2), to be based in Jakarta.   • Pemberdayaan Perempuan Memerangi Kemiskinan (PPMK) is a microfinance organisation based in Yogyakarta that work to empower women to fight poverty. They also provide free English classes to children and are currently working to establish an English book library, so children can continue learning at home.
